Why a Skyridge street and a Lake Ontario street differ
Manlius is the only municipality in this metro whose listed water source includes wells, the Skyridge Community Water District, alongside Lake Ontario. That distinction matters for a water heater because groundwater and lake water leave different things behind: iron and manganese behave differently from lake minerals in a tank, in an element and on a fixture. A staining or sediment complaint borrowed from a neighbor three miles away on a different source is not evidence about your own heater.

Rust at every cold tap is the supply or the street.

The Onondaga County Residential Water Heater Permit Checklist, revised June 2026, must be completed and submitted with the water heater permit application. It requires a full port valve on the cold water inlet, a temperature and pressure relief valve with the discharge tube piped to within 6 inches of the floor and not reduced in size and with no exposed threaded end, a drain valve on the tank, metal hot and cold lines at least 18 inches long on a gas fired tank, the flue or exhaust fitted and supported with three sheet metal screws and sealed, the temperature set to 120 degrees Fahrenheit, and a drain pan where applicable. Photographs of each item are required, including one showing a placard with the date, the plumber's name, the homeowner and the job address.
